21 August 2026 19:06

Singapore’s Changi Airport Group (CAG) has expressed readiness to contribute its expertise and experience to the construction of a new airport in Astana, as Kazakhstan seeks to strengthen the capital’s position as an international aviation hub.

The potential cooperation was discussed during a meeting between Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov and Chief Executive Officer of Changi Airport Group, Yam Kum Weng, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.

Bektenov highlighted the potential for closer cooperation between Kazakhstan and Singapore as the country works to develop its aviation infrastructure in line with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s instructions to establish an international aviation hub.

Changi Airport Group operates Singapore’s Changi and Seletar airports. Through its subsidiary Changi Airports International, the group is involved in the development, management and master planning of airport infrastructure at more than 60 airports in over 20 countries. The group also introduces advanced digital solutions, including biometrics and automation, and adheres to the principles of carbon neutrality.

CAG CEO Yam Kum Weng expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Kazakhstan and highlighted Astana’s potential to serve as a bridge between Europe and Asia. He confirmed the group’s readiness to provide expertise, knowledge and industry experience for the new airport project.

Following the meeting, the sides reaffirmed the strong level of Kazakhstani-Singaporean relations and their interest in further expanding practical cooperation. They noted that future collaboration could focus on creating a comprehensive airport ecosystem.
