Independence Day celebration in Brooklyn turns into shooting, children among injured
Eight people, including four children, were injured in a shooting in New York City during Independence Day celebrations, the New York Post reports, citing sources.
The incident occurred at around 10:35 p.m. local time in the Coney Island neighborhood of Brooklyn, where crowds had gathered to watch a fireworks display marking the holiday.
Among the victims were a 33-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who were shot in the chest, a 25-year-old woman and three boys aged 14, 12 and 7 wounded in the legs or thigh, a 37-year-old man struck in the shoulder, and a 6-year-old boy shot in the stomach.
Seven victims are reported to be in stable condition, while the 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition.
Authorities have not disclosed information about any suspects or a possible motive, and the investigation is ongoing.
