India begins first update of self-reliance strategy snce 2020
The Indian government has begun updating its national self-reliance strategy, Atmanirbhar Bharat “Self-Reliant India”, for the first time since its introduction in 2020, according to The Economic Times.
The report said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered a review of existing measures aimed at strengthening the country’s economic resilience amid ongoing global instability.
A government security committee has been assigned to oversee the development of the updated strategy. Its mandate includes assessing the potential economic impact of a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and proposing measures to safeguard critical supply chains.
The review is expected to focus on reducing vulnerabilities in key sectors and enhancing India’s ability to withstand external shocks in energy and trade.
