India denies talks with Iran over seized tankers

India has not engaged in any negotiations with Iran over the return or exchange of three vessels, a spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday, March 17, according to Iran International.

The statement followed reports claiming that Iran had proposed a deal involving the return of three seized tankers in exchange for guaranteeing safe passage for ships flying the Indian flag or travelling to India through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Indian side denied that any such negotiations had taken place.
