India ready to contribute to conflict resolution in Ukraine, Middle East

25 October 2024 19:37

India is prepared to make a "full contribution" to resolving conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced following the India-Germany inter-governmental consultations in New Delhi, coinciding with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit.

“The ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia are of concern to both of us,” Modi stated, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

“India has always believed that problems cannot be solved through war. And India is ready to contribute in every possible way to the restoration of peace,” he emphasized.

Since the start of Modi's third term in June, India has actively engaged with both Russia and Ukraine to address the ongoing conflict.

Modi has visited both Moscow and Kyiv and had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in late August. Additionally, Modi's National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval, visited St. Petersburg for discussions with Putin.

Regarding the situation in the Middle East, India has expressed its concern over escalating tensions and urged all parties involved to exercise restraint and seek resolution through dialogue.

On the Israeli-Palestinian issue, India remains committed to a negotiated solution that aims to establish a sovereign, independent, and viable State of Palestine, coexisting peacefully within secure and recognized borders alongside Israel.

In turn, Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz expressed support for a political resolution to the conflict in Ukraine and endorsed India's role as a mediator. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi following his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Scholz stated: “Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine affects Germany and India in many ways. No one can turn a blind eye to this conflict. Therefore, I strongly advocate for India to champion a lasting and fair peace.” He added that he welcomes India’s willingness to "leverage its strong ties with all parties to contribute to a political solution to the conflict."

“This war, which has dragged on for so long and caused so many casualties, must finally come to an end. The integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine must be preserved. This is what we stand for,” Scholz concluded.
