India’s BM-04 hypersonic missile takes main stage at weapons fair
The Indian Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has officially revealed the full-scale model of its upcoming hypersonic ballistic missile, the BM-04, at a prominent weapons exhibition in Hyderabad.
The missile's technical specifications were also disclosed, showcasing its impressive capabilities, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The solid-fuel missile is designed with a gliding warhead that can achieve speeds exceeding Mach 5, classifying it as hypersonic. The BM-04 missile weighs 11.5 tons, spans 10.2 meters in length, and boasts a significant operational range of 400 to 1,500 kilometres. The missile features an advanced, indigenously developed satellite navigation system, which enhances its accuracy and control. It is also equipped with a 500 kg conventional warhead and offers a target precision of 30 meters. This high level of accuracy positions the BM-04 as a formidable asset in India's defence arsenal. In terms of mobility, the missile is launched from a mobile system mounted on a six-wheeled Tatra platform.
This platform provides flexibility and mobility for quick deployment, allowing India to adapt to various defence scenarios efficiently. The unveiling of the BM-04 marks a significant milestone in India's missile development programme, emphasising the country’s growing technological and defence capabilities. The hypersonic missile will strengthen India's strategic deterrence and enhance its defence readiness.
