India: Mother kills son in self-defence after alleged assault
A 56-year-old woman was arrested in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, on charges of killing her son, following allegations of sexual assault, police said.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of August 7 in Mandawali's Shyamiwala village, where the man was found dead in his sleep with injuries from a sharp-edged weapon, Caliber.Az reports per Indian media.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Vajpayee, the woman was taken into custody for questioning and during interrogation, she admitted to the incident.
She stated that her son, who was unmarried and struggled with alcohol, had previously assaulted her while intoxicated. Due to social stigma, she had not reported the matter earlier.
The woman also said that when her son attempted to assault her again, she defended herself using a sickle and subsequently raised an alarm, initially claiming that intruders had entered the house.
