Indian PM to become one of first leaders to meet Trump after his re-election

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the United States next week for talks with US President Donald Trump, India's Deputy Foreign Minister Vikram Misri announced on February 7.

According to reports in Indian media, the visit is scheduled to begin on February 12, per Caliber.Az.

Modi will be among the first world leaders to visit the US following President Trump's second-term inauguration, according to Misri.

Modi’s trip comes after his visit to France, where he will co-chair the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris from February 10-12.

The official working visit to the US will take place on February 12 and 13, marking Modi's first visit since Trump’s re-election. Misri confirmed that this visit will follow a series of high-level diplomatic exchanges and is expected to be a key event in the evolving India-US relationship.

On February 3, Reuters reported that Trump had extended an invitation to Modi to visit the White House, which came shortly after the deportation of Indian illegal migrants to India as part of a broader immigration policy.

Trump’s administration began a major crackdown on illegal migration in late January. On January 21, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement began detaining migrants, with a significant portion of the first deportation wave consisting of Indian nationals. A military plane carrying between 100 and 205 Indian migrants left the US on February 5, landing in Amritsar.

In his inaugural speech on January 20, Trump vowed to take immediate action against illegal immigration, declaring a nationwide state of emergency and signaling the start of his “migrant deportation operation.”
