Indonesia’s Central Sulawesi under emergency after 6.7-magnitude quake PHOTO

A state of emergency has been declared in Indonesia’s Central Sulawesi province following a 6.7-magnitude earthquake, the country’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) announced.

According to the latest data, one person was killed, and 79 others were injured in the quake, which struck on Tuesday, June 16. More than 6,400 residents have been affected, with over 2,000 households impacted, mainly in the Sigi district.

The emergency status will remain in effect until June 23 and is aimed at accelerating disaster response and recovery efforts.

Authorities also reported at least 13 aftershocks and urged residents not to return to damaged buildings until safety inspections are completed.
