Initiative Group: Return to Western Azerbaijan represents unifying national objective
Head of the Initiative Group for the Return to Western Azerbaijan under the Azerbaijani parliament Aziz Alakbarli has said that the return to Western Azerbaijan is a nationwide goal.
Alakbarli made these remarks during a plenary session of parliament dedicated to the government’s 2024 activity report, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He, who also leads the Western Azerbaijan Community, pointed out that the government’s report highlights significant attention to this issue.
“The document highlights the creation of departments in scientific institutions focused on the study of Western Azerbaijan. The state agencies have already taken concrete steps toward the return process. I suggest that the progress made in this regard must be more comprehensively reflected in the next report,” Alakbarli added.
Earlier, the Western Azerbaijan Community called on Armenia to cease its destructive actions, which they argue are obstructing justice and promoting impunity for war crimes committed against Azerbaijanis.
The statement, issued by the Community, follows ongoing trials in Azerbaijan of individuals suspected of war crimes and crimes against humanity, particularly in relation to the ethnic cleansing and mass killings of Azerbaijanis.
The Western Azerbaijan Community emphasised that Armenia, instead of supporting the judicial process, is actively attempting to justify the crimes committed during the conflict, thereby encouraging impunity. The group also expressed concern about the involvement of some European parliaments, international organizations, and political figures who, alongside Yerevan, are working to hinder the pursuit of justice.
