Iran begins return of 55 fishermen detained in UAE waters

Iranian authorities have begun the process of returning 55 fishermen who were detained in UAE waters in the spring, with 24 of them already brought back to the Islamic Republic, the Iranian Embassy in the UAE announced.

So far, 24 people have returned to Iran via Dubai-Mashhad flights on Friday, July 9, and Monday, July 12, after receiving the necessary documents and travel permits issued through the embassy’s consular section.

The Iranian diplomatic mission recalled that the fishermen were detained during the first months of the Iran-US-Israel war. It said the main reason for the incident was a disruption in navigation systems, which led the Iranian fishermen to enter UAE territorial waters.
