Iran builds two new nuclear power plants
The construction of two new nuclear power plants started in Bushehr Province, located on the Persian Gulf coast in the south of Iran.
“The construction of two nuclear power plants with a capacity of 1,080 megawatts each started in Bushehr Province," Governor of the region Ahmed Mohammadizadeh said, Tesnim news agency reports.
The governor noted that this project was fully implemented by Iranian engineers and specialists.
At the moment there is a nuclear power plant of 3000 megawatts capacity in Bushehr Province. The construction of the power plant, begun by the Germans in 1976, was interrupted by the Islamic Revolution and the Iran-Iraq war that followed.
As a result of an agreement with Russia in 1995, the first 60 MW facilities were commissioned in 2011. In 2015, the capacity of the facilities was increased to 3 thousand megawatts.
