Brawl erupts in Armenian parliament after MP calls for restraint toward Russia VIDEO
A session of Armenia’s parliament descended into chaos when Ovik Agazaryan, an MP and former ally of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, sparked outrage among members of the ruling “Civil Contract” faction by urging Russia not to fall for provocations emanating from Yerevan.
As reported by Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media sources, Agazaryan addressed parliament from the rostrum, declaring:
“I ask, I urge the Russian side not to give in to our provocation.”
His remarks triggered an immediate and furious reaction from the ruling party MPs, who began shouting “Shame!” as Agazaryan stepped down from the podium.
The loudest protest came from Arman Egoyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on European Integration, who accused Agazaryan of “serving the interests of a foreign state.”
Tensions quickly escalated as lawmakers leapt from their seats, trading heated words that soon led to a physical altercation.
In the midst of the confrontation, Agazaryan hurled a water bottle at a fellow MP who had hurled obscenities at him.
Order was eventually restored when Deputy Speaker Hakob Arshakyan intervened, ordering Agazaryan’s removal from the chamber and barring him from participating in the remainder of the parliamentary session. Arshakyan also issued an official warning to Egoyan for his conduct.
