Iran calls for dialogue to resolve Russia-West tensions
Iran has urged Russia and the West to engage in political dialogue to resolve their differences, amid ongoing tensions fueled by the conflict in Ukraine.
Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran's acting foreign minister, made the remarks in an interview with CNN Türk.
"We do not think that war is a solution," Kani said, adding: "We favor a political dialogue between Russia and the West."
Iran has maintained relatively good relations with both Russia and the West despite the ongoing war in Ukraine. The country has previously called for a ceasefire and a negotiated settlement to the conflict.
However, Iran's ties with the United States, a key Western power, remain strained due to long-standing disagreements over Iran's nuclear program. This complex web of relationships could influence Iran's ability to act as a neutral mediator between Russia and the West.
