Iran condemns Israeli strikes on Yemen's Hudaydah, warns of regional escalation

21 July 2024 12:42

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned Israel's military strikes against Yemen's Red Sea port city of Hudaydah.

In a statement on July 21, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani criticized the Israeli attacks, highlighting the significant civilian impact and the destruction of Hudaydah's infrastructure, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.

Kanaani remarked that the "oppressed, but strong people of Yemen are paying the price for their noble support for the innocent people, including women and children, of Gaza." He condemned the attacks as indicative of the "savage nature of the child-killing Israeli regime."

He also warned of the risk of escalating tensions and the potential for the conflict to spill over across the region, attributing this to what he called the "dangerous adventurism by the Zionists."

Kanaani pointed to the continuous siege and violence against Gaza's residents as the root cause of regional tensions. "Peace will not return to West Asia as long as the Zionist regime's aggression continues in Palestine, especially the Gaza Strip," he stated.

The Iranian spokesperson held the Zionist regime and its supporters, including the US government, directly responsible for the "dangerous and unpredictable consequences" of ongoing violence in Gaza and the recent attacks on Yemen.

The Yemeni Ministry of Health reported that the Israeli strikes resulted in three deaths and 87 injuries, many of which involved severe burns. The air raids, which targeted oil storage facilities and a power plant in Hudaydah, occurred a day after Yemeni forces claimed responsibility for a drone attack that killed one person and injured ten others in Tel Aviv.
