Strategic alliance between Russia, Azerbaijan irks certain forces, Zakharova says
The relationship between Russia and Azerbaijan remains one of strategic alliance, despite efforts by certain forces to undermine it, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova.
"It is important to remember that relations between Moscow and Baku are of a strategic alliance nature. And naturally, there are forces that are not pleased with this," Zakharova told a briefing, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Zakharova emphasised, there is a profound meaning embedded in Russian-Azerbaijani relations.
"This is our historical period of unity, when we were part of a single state. <...> It is a deep history of our cooperation, people-to-people contacts, and historical challenges we overcame together," she added.
The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also noted that such an alliance "provokes resentment and a desire to interfere on the part of certain forces."
