Iran, IAEA to hold talks in Vienna to define new framework of cooperation
Delegations from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Islamic Republic of Iran are scheduled to convene today in Vienna for a new round of negotiations aimed at redefining their future cooperation under evolving political conditions.
Reza Najafi, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna, confirmed the meeting in a statement, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
“Another round of talks between Iran’s delegation and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be held today in Vienna,” Najafi said.
According to Najafi, the discussions are intended to maintain and expand dialogue between Tehran and the UN nuclear watchdog in light of recent legislative developments in Iran. “These negotiations are aimed at continuing consultations between Iran and the IAEA to define cooperation under the new conditions set by Iran’s Parliament,” he explained.
The meeting comes at a pivotal time, as Iran's nuclear program continues to generate international scrutiny, with Western powers voicing concerns over uranium enrichment levels and transparency of activities. However, Iranian officials maintain that their nuclear program remains peaceful and within the rights of a sovereign state under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Najafi noted that one of the key goals of today’s meeting is to reach consensus on how to move forward within a revised diplomatic framework. “The talks will determine the ‘new framework of cooperation between Iran and the IAEA,’” he stated, adding that the outcome will help “clarify the scope and nature of future engagements.”
