Iran's FM to visit Oman for talks on Strait of Hormuz, regional tensions
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Oman on July 11 for talks focused on bilateral relations and the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions between Tehran and Washington remain high despite a ceasefire memorandum.
Araghchi will lead a diplomatic delegation and hold discussions with Omani officials on bilateral cooperation and the latest regional developments, with particular emphasis on the Strait of Hormuz, foreign media reports.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said the visit is part of ongoing consultations on arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz under the memorandum of understanding that brought an end to the recent conflict between Iran and the United States.
In mid-June, Iran and the United States reached a Pakistan-brokered memorandum of understanding aimed at ending hostilities and paving the way for a lasting peace agreement.
However, tensions have escalated again in recent days, with both sides accusing each other of violating the agreement.
