Iran seeks legal accountability for US, Israel, envoy says

14 August 2026 10:15

Iran continues to negotiate with the United States through intermediaries, while maintaining that diplomacy is its top priority and that it remains ready to defend the country, Iranian Ambassador to Thailand Nasreddin Heydari said.

“Talks through intermediaries are continuing. The main question is how sincerely the US side intends to fulfil its commitments. Diplomacy remains our priority, but we are always ready to defend our homeland,” Heydari told Russian media.

He added that Iran intends to hold the United States and Israel legally accountable.

The United States and Israel began a war with Iran on 28 February. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate 60-day cessation of hostilities on all fronts.

Talks between the two sides were later held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with Qatar and Pakistan acting as mediators on implementation of the memorandum.

However, on the night of 8 July, the United States resumed large-scale strikes on Iran, accusing Tehran of violating the agreement concerning the Strait of Hormuz.
