Iran seizes 2 US sea drones

The Iranian Navy has seized two maritime drones from the US 5th Fleet in the Red Sea.

Iranian state television showed footage from the deck of the Iranian destroyer Jamaran, where sailors in life jackets inspected two Saildrone Explorer drones, one of which they threw overboard. State television reported that on September 1 the Iranian navy discovered "several unmanned spy boats abandoned in international sea lanes," ABC News reports.

The Saildrone Explorer is an unmanned sailboat powered by the sun and with equipment to monitor maritime traffic. It is equipped with technologies available in the public domain. At the time of the seizure of the drone, there was no classified information on board, the US Navy said.
