Iran uncovers large fuel smuggling operation in Bandar Abbas
Prosecutor of Iran’s Hormozgan province Aref Akbari has said that more than 700,000 liters of smuggled fuel were seized in Bandar Abbas city.
Around 200 people were detained, Caliber.Az reports per Iranian media.
After monitoring multiple fuelings of dozens of trucks at a filling station in a coastal village near the Bandar Abbas port, a special investigation was initiated under court order. This investigation ultimately led to the discovery of a big smuggling ring.
"The leader of a major fuel smuggling ring operating along the coast of Bandar Abbas has been identified and arrested," the statement reads. Akbari said that more than 200 individuals are implicated in the case. The proceedings are currently at the stage of reviewing the charges.
Earlier, on May 17, the Iranian police stated about the arrest of more than 250 individuals for promoting satanism, including three citizens from the EU member states. The police detained 146 men and 115 women who were found in inappropriate and indecent attire, bearing satanic emblems, signs, and symbols on their clothing, faces, and hair.
