Iran "very close" to agreement with IAEA on nuclear cooperation, FM says
The Iranian delegation held a productive meeting with representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, with both sides nearing an agreement on new frameworks for bilateral cooperation, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.
"Negotiations with the [International Atomic Energy Agency] (IAEA) have begun. My colleagues in Vienna continued discussions to establish new frameworks, and as far as I know, they held very constructive talks," Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.
Araghchi said Tehran is "very close" to agreeing on new frameworks for cooperation with the Agency, primarily in line with the legislative act approved by the parliament and within the legal frameworks established by the parliament, while also taking into account the realities on the ground and the changes that have occurred
He added that Iran could initiate a new round of cooperation with the Agency, which would address all concerns specifically outlined in the parliament's legislative act.
In turn, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna, Reza Najafi, reported on the third round of technical negotiations between Iran and the IAEA held in Vienna.
According to Najafi, the third round, focused on developing a mechanism for fulfilling safeguard obligations in the new context following attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran's nuclear facilities, and in accordance with the legislative act passed by the parliament, took place in Vienna on Septmebr 5 and 6. The sides exchanged views on the points contained in the draft agreement.
