Peace talks on Iran conflict may resume in coming days, UN chief says
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on April 14 that it is “highly probable” that negotiations on ending the war in Iran will resume, following signals from US President Donald Trump that talks could restart in Pakistan in the coming days.
Speaking to journalists at the United Nations, Guterres said the organisation expects diplomatic efforts to resume soon and stressed the importance of maintaining momentum toward a political solution, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Guterres noted that he had met on April 14 with Pakistan’s deputy prime minister and praised Islamabad’s peace efforts.
“I think it would be unrealistic to expect... such a complex problem, long-lasting problem, could be resolved in the first session of a negotiation,” he said, adding that negotiations must continue in parallel with the maintenance of a ceasefire.
