Iran warns of consequences for violations of ceasefire
Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf expressed his views on the inclusion of Lebanon in the ceasefire agreement.
He shared the corresponding post on X.
1- Lebanon and the entire Resistance Axis, as Iran's allies, form an inseparable part of the ceasefire. (Point 1, 10-point proposal)
2- PM Shehbaz Sharif publicly and clearly stressed the Lebanon issue; there is no room for denial and backtracking.
3- Ceasefire violations carry explicit costs and STRONG responses. Extinguish the fire immediately.
The United States and Iran agreed on a temporary two-week ceasefire in their 2026 conflict, announced on April 8, 2026, with mediation by Pakistan. The truce aims to halt nearly six weeks of hostilities that have destabilised the Middle East and disrupted global energy flows, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite the agreement, the ceasefire remains fragile. Fighting has continued in related theatres, notably between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, where heavy strikes have strained the truce and raised questions about its geographic scope.
US officials clarified that the ceasefire focuses on Iran and US allies, not necessarily covering Lebanon.
Both sides claim elements of success, but core disputes remain unresolved, including control of the Strait of Hormuz and broader regional security demands. Iran has signalled it will approach further peace talks with caution amid deep mistrust, and markets have reacted nervously to the uncertain calm.
