Iranian military claims US sailors set fire to USS Gerald R. Ford
A representative of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters claimed that US servicemen deliberately set fire to the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford amid panic among the crew.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, the headquarters said the carrier had been redeployed from the Mediterranean Sea to the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Oman to compensate for what it described as losses suffered by US forces.
The statement alleged that the vessel was deliberately set on fire in the Red Sea by several American military personnel because of panic among the crew. No information about the current condition of the ship has been reported.
Earlier reports indicated that two sailors were injured in a fire in the main laundry facility of the USS Gerald R. Ford, the newest and largest aircraft carrier operated by the United States Navy.
