Iranian national detained at Azerbaijan border over large drug seizure

Azerbaijani border authorities have detained an Iranian national for attempting to smuggle illicit drugs and psychotropic substances across the southern border into Azerbaijan.

According to a statement provided to Caliber.Az by the State Border Service of Azerbaijan, personnel from the "Horadiz" border detachment apprehended 51-year-old Iranian citizen Aghapour Hossein Novruz (born 1975) during an illegal border-crossing attempt.

Border guards seized 7.49 kilograms (16.5 pounds) of marijuana along with 1,810 tablets of "Methadone M-40," a regulated psychotropic substance, from the suspect's possession.
