Iranian president lands in Muscat for two-day official visit

27 May 2025 17:06

On May 27, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Muscat for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, marking a new chapter in Iran-Oman relations.

Upon arrival at Muscat International Airport, the Iranian leader was received by Deputy Prime Minister Shahab bin Tariq Al Said and Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

Following an official welcome ceremony, President Pezeshkian is scheduled to hold a private meeting with Sultan Haitham at Al Alam Palace. The meeting will be followed by high-level talks between delegations from both countries, with a focus on enhancing bilateral ties and deepening regional cooperation.

The Iranian president is accompanied by a senior delegation, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, Defence Minister Brigadier-General Aziz Nasirzadeh, Minister of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare Ahmad Meydari, Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Mohammad Atabak, and Minister of Justice Amin-Hossein Rahimi.

During the visit, Iran and Oman are expected to sign multiple cooperation agreements in areas such as infrastructure development, maritime affairs, and trade. Both sides will also hold discussions on regional stability and joint efforts to support peace and confront Israeli aggression in Gaza.

President Pezeshkian has called on regional countries to unite in opposition to what he described as the “criminal behaviour” of the Israeli regime.

The visit follows a series of diplomatic exchanges between Tehran and Muscat. Sultan Haitham visited Tehran two years ago, a trip that followed the late President Ebrahim Raisi’s official visit to Oman.

Oman has played a crucial mediating role in regional diplomacy, facilitating five rounds of indirect talks between Iran and the United States since April. These efforts aim to revive a framework similar to the 2015 nuclear agreement, which was abandoned by former U.S. President Donald Trump during his first term.
