Iraq, Jordan, Syria step up military coordination

The military leadership of Iraq, Jordan and Syria has agreed to step up intelligence sharing and strengthen coordination to counter cross-border threats and security challenges in the region at a high-level meeting between representatives of the three countries’ militaries in Amman, Jordan, Iraqi Armed Forces spokesman Yahya Rasoul Abdullah has said.

He noted that the meeting was attended by Iraqi Army Chief of Staff Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, Jordan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as the chiefs of staff of the Syrian army and the Peshmerga, the armed forces of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, Caliber.Az reports, citing Asharq Al-Awsat.

According to him, the sides discussed regional security, border protection and efforts to counter cross-border threats.

Particular attention was paid to expanding the exchange of information and experience between defense institutions.

Abdullah remarked that rapid changes in the geopolitical situation require joint efforts, continued coordination and stronger collective readiness to safeguard the sovereignty of the countries in the region.
