Iraq ready to facilitate US-Iran talks, ambassador says
Iraq is ready to host talks between the United States and Iran if needed, Iraqi Ambassador to Russia Abdul-Karim Hashim Mostafa has stated.
He recalled that Iraq hosted the first indirect talks between the United States and Iran in 2014, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“So Iraq is always ready to play this role, but it depends on the willingness of both parties — the United States and Iran," the ambassador noted.
According to Hashim Mustafa, the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel has "not had a significant impact" on the daily lives of ordinary Iraqis.
"Unfortunately, Israeli and other missiles passed [toward Iran] not only through Iraqi airspace, but also through Syrian and Lebanese airspace, and sometimes Jordanian airspace. Only a few countries have the technical capabilities to prevent this," he added.
