Iraq redeploys forces in provinces after Kurdish region shelling
The Nineveh Operations Command has dispatched two brigades to the Nineveh Plains to ensure security following a recent escalation, Shafaq reports, citing a provincial security source.
The redeployment is part of measures to reorganise the security system and strengthen regional control, according to the source.
These areas are currently under the responsibility of the 30th Brigade of the Popular Mobilisation Forces.
The movement of forces comes amid deteriorating security conditions in recent days. Reports indicate that cities in Iraqi Kurdistan have been shelled, allegedly from areas in the Nineveh Plains.
Earlier, Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Mohammed Shia al-Sudani made changes to the leadership of security forces in these regions.
