Iraq’s key southern oil sites go offline, central production maintained
Iraq has temporarily suspended oil production at its largest southern fields, including West Qurna and Majnoon in Basra province, the country’s Oil Minister,Hayyan Abdul Ghani, announced in a video statement.
The minister said the halt affects West Qurna-1, West Qurna-2, Faiha, and Majnoon, as well as several oil fields in Maysan province in southeastern Iraq, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
Despite the temporary suspension in the south, Abdul Ghani noted that production continues at a reduced capacity in central Iraq to ensure power plants remain operational.
No specific timeline was given for the resumption of full production, and the ministry did not indicate whether the suspension is linked to maintenance, security concerns, or other operational factors.
