Iraq’s new president meets US diplomat, calls for dialogue, cooperation
Iraq's new President Nizar Amidi has held a meeting with the Chargé d'Affaires at US Mission Iraq, Joshua Harris, since taking office, with both sides emphasizing dialogue, cooperation, and regional stability during talks in Baghdad.
“Ways to strengthen cooperative relations between the two countries were discussed in the interests of mutual benefit and development,” the statement by the Iraqi presidential office said, Caliber.Az reports.
It added that both sides “emphasized the necessity of adopting dialogue as the main approach to resolving crises, which contributes to achieving security and stability and strengthening international peace.”
Nizar Amidi is an Iraqi political and state figure who was elected President of Iraq on April 11, 2026, receiving 227 votes in the second round of voting.
