Iraq's PMF targeted again: Three wounded in latest strike in Salah al-Din

Three members of the security service of Iraq’s Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) were injured in an attack targeting the headquarters of the 6th Brigade in the Baiji area of Salah al-Din province, according to the Iraqi News Agency. One of the wounded is reported to be in critical condition.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident comes against the backdrop of escalating tensions in Iraq, where clashes have intensified between US forces and Iranian-backed armed groups amid the broader war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

The PMF is a coalition of predominantly Shiite paramilitary factions established in 2014 to counter the rapid territorial expansion of ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant). The force was later formally incorporated into Iraq’s official security apparatus and includes multiple groups aligned with Iran.

The latest attack is part of a broader pattern of violence targeting PMF positions in recent days. Earlier incidents include an attack in Baghdad that left at least four people dead and another strike on a checkpoint in Iraq’s western Anbar province that killed eight.
