Iraq sets 139 priorities in new four-year development plan

12 August 2026 09:45

Iraq’s cabinet on August 11 approved a 2026–2029 government program outlining 139 priorities across 14 sectors, with 13 legislative bills also identified as priorities for the government’s next phase.

The program was approved during the 14th regular cabinet session chaired by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi. The session focused exclusively on reviewing the program before it is submitted to parliament in accordance with the cabinet’s internal rules, Caliber.Az reports, citing the PM’s media office.

Key measures include establishing a Supreme Council for Investment and a Supreme Council for Financial Stability, launching a national strategy for digital transformation and cybersecurity, and strengthening controls at border crossings.

The program also sets priorities in areas including economic reform, energy, agriculture, water, education, healthcare, social protection, human rights and culture, while seeking to develop non-oil sectors of the economy.
