Iraqi Kurdistan must remain neutral ground, says PUK leader

The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Bafel Talabani, said the Kurdistan Region of Iraq must not be turned into a battlefield amid the ongoing regional tensions.

According to ISNA, Talabani stated that Iran had been preparing for the current conflict for the past 45 years and is ready to offer prolonged resistance. At the same time, he stressed that no cross-border military operations against Iran have been carried out from the territory of Iraqi Kurdistan.

Talabani also noted that the Peshmerga forces have so far prevented any such actions.

He emphasised that the Kurdistan Region should serve as a bridge for conflict resolution rather than becoming a zone of military confrontation.
