Iraqi militias launch talks for temporary truce with US forces
Badr Secretary General Hadi al-Amiri, has opened negotiations aimed at establishing a temporary truce between armed factions in Iraq and US forces, a source familiar with the discussions revealed.
“The Coordination Council authorized al-Amiri to begin talks with the leaders of armed groups regarding a temporary truce with American troops,” the source told Shafaq News.
“This truce is similar to the previous one announced by the Hezbollah Brigades,” the source added. “Current negotiations led by al-Amiri are focused on the Kataib Hezbollah Brigades and the Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba movement.”
Armed factions, along with the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, Al-Hashd al-Shaabi), have faced near-daily US strikes. In response, these groups have targeted US assets, including the embassy in Baghdad and the consulate in Erbil, often using drones.
Last month, the Hezbollah Brigades extended a five-month truce three times, though it applied solely to the US embassy in Baghdad.
The armed groups announced their involvement in the war on Iran’s side from the onset of hostilities, which began in late January or February of last year.
