Iraqi president Abdel Latif Rashid withdraws from race

Iraq’s President Abdel Latif Rashid has withdrawn from the race for the country’s presidency, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

In a brief statement cited by parliamentary media, Speaker of the Council of Representatives Mohsen al-Mandalawi said that Abdel Latif Rashid had been removed from the list of candidates, Caliber.Az reports via Iraqi media.

The statement added that following his withdrawal, the number of candidates contesting the presidency now stands at 16.
