Is acid rain from Iran heading towards Kyrgyzstan?
09 March 2026 13:09
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East may have environmental repercussions for Central Asia, raising concerns in Kyrgyzstan about possible acid rain, Caliber.Az reports via Kyrgyz media.
Kyrgyz parliamentarian Makhabat Mavlyanova highlighted the potential risks, saying, “As a result of Israel’s attacks on Iranian oil refineries, many harmful chemicals have been released into the air. Now there are reports that these substances could fall here in Kyrgyzstan as acid rain. Is anyone monitoring this process, and which regions might be affected?”
Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision Asel Raimkulova responded that the Hydrometeorological Service is tracking the situation through its monitoring stations.
