Israel agrees to talks with Lebanon in Washington

Authorities in Israel have agreed to hold talks with Lebanon in Washington next week under US pressure, according to Israel’s public broadcaster Kan, citing sources.

The discussions will focus on a ceasefire and the dismantling of armed formations belonging to the Shiite movement Hezbollah. At the same time, Israel reserves the right to carry out retaliatory strikes if attacks on its territory continue.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had ordered direct negotiations with Lebanon at the earliest possible time. According to Axios, both sides are expected to be represented at the ambassadorial level in the United States.
