Israel alerts public to Iranian intelligence recruitment efforts
Israel’s domestic security agency, Shin Bet (Shabak), alongside the national police, has issued a warning to citizens that Iranian intelligence services are attempting to recruit Israelis via the internet. The alert comes in the wake of Israel’s ongoing “Lion’s Roar” operation, Mignews reports.
Authorities have urged Israelis not to engage with Iranian intelligence networks or undertake assignments related to national security on their behalf. Shabak and the police are actively engaged in pursuing and apprehending individuals believed to be collaborating with Iranian operatives.
To date, 16 cases have been identified in which Israeli citizens reportedly contacted Iranian agents and carried out assignments for them. Criminal proceedings have been opened in these instances, with charges relating to serious offenses against national security.
“It must be underscored that such conduct represents a grave offense against national security, carrying the prospect of substantial custodial sentences. Shabak and the police will continue to apply strict penalties to anyone who engages with Iranian operatives. Any doubts or suspicions about such recruitment attempts should be reported immediately to Israel’s security services and police,” the statement said.
