Israel announces Netanyahu call with Lebanese president, Beirut denies

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to hold a phone call with Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun, an Israeli official said.

A member of Israel’s security cabinet, Galia Gamliel, said Netanyahu would “soon speak” with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Al Jazeera reports.

A senior Lebanese official, however, said Beirut has “no information” regarding any such call.

The conflicting statements come amid ongoing regional tensions and heightened diplomatic sensitivity between the two countries.
