Israel calls on NATO to address Turkish threats

30 July 2024 11:10

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz called on NATO to take action in response to recent statements made by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.

Erdogan's comments, made during a speech on July 28, included a vague suggestion of potential “intervention” similar to Türkiye's past “actions” in Libya and Karabakh, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

In light of these remarks, Katz has instructed Israeli diplomats to urgently engage with NATO member states. The goal is to seek condemnation of the threats and to discuss Türkiye's current role in regional dynamics. Katz emphasized the need for NATO's response to safeguard stability in the region.

Erdogan, a vocal critic of Israel’s actions in Gaza, did not specify the nature of the intervention he was referring to but reiterated his stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He called for strong measures to address the situation in Gaza.

Türkiye's relationship with Israel has faced challenges in recent years, despite robust bilateral trade relations. Recently, Türkiye announced it would suspend all trade with Israel until the conflict in Gaza is resolved and humanitarian aid can be delivered effectively.
