Israel delivers large autonomous BlueWhale submarine to German Navy
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), in cooperation with TKMS, has delivered a large autonomous BlueWhale submarine to the German Navy under the “Kurs Marine 2035+” program. The handover ceremony took place on 25 February at the Eckernförde naval base, attended by government and military officials.
According to a statement from IAI, the BlueWhale is a fully autonomous large-scale submarine designed to support the German Navy in unmanned anti-submarine operations and covert maritime missions. The system integrates intelligence-gathering capabilities, advanced sensor technologies, and unified data management on a single platform.
The BlueWhale can conduct reconnaissance operations, detect targets both above and below the sea surface, collect acoustic information, and locate naval mines on the seabed. Its delivery follows extensive testing in the Baltic Sea, considered one of the most challenging and strategic operational areas for the German Navy.
