Israel FM criticizes Belgium over charges against mohels
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has criticised Belgium after reports that charges were brought against three mohels detained last year in Antwerp, according to Caliber.Az, citing his post on X.
The individuals, who are religious practitioners in Judaism responsible for performing circumcision, were detained on suspicion of conducting the procedure without the presence of a licensed physician, in violation of Belgian medical laws.

Reacting to the development, Sa’ar accused Belgium of targeting religious practices. “By doing so, Belgium is joining a disgraceful short list, alongside Ireland, of countries that use criminal law to persecute Jews for practising Judaism. This is a mark of shame for Belgium. Circumcision is a cornerstone of the Jewish faith. Many countries in Europe and around the world have created legal frameworks to facilitate circumcision and the freedom of the Jewish religion in their countries. I call on the Belgian government to act immediately to find an appropriate solution,” he said.
