Israel hits Gaza school, reports claim 100 dead
The Israeli military has confirmed an airstrike on the al-Tabain school in the Gaza Strip, which it alleges served as a command centre for the Palestinian Hamas movement.
The school was used to plan attacks against Israeli forces and the state of Israel, Caliber.Az reports quoting the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) statement posted on the Telegram platform.
The IDF stated that extensive precautions were taken to minimize civilian harm, including the use of precision-guided munitions, aerial surveillance, and intelligence.
Palestinian media and other sources report that the strike has resulted in at least 100 deaths and numerous injuries. Earlier, Mahmoud Basal, a representative of the Civil Defence Agency in Gaza, reported around 40 deaths. He added that rescuers are working to control fires and recover bodies from the rubble.
The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched attacks on Israeli territory. Since then, the violence has led to the deaths of approximately 1,200 Israelis, with 5,400 injured and more than 200 taken hostage. In retaliation, Israeli military operations have caused about 40,000 Palestinian deaths and around 92,000 injuries, with a significant portion of the casualties being women and children.
