Israel intensifies strikes on Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza
The Israeli military continues its offensive against militant groups in the Gaza Strip.
According to a statement from the army’s press service, Israeli forces are conducting operations against terrorist organisations throughout the Palestinian enclave, Caliber.Az reports.
In particular, Israeli troops struck a group of militants from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the Deir al-Balah area, located in the central part of Gaza.
The military also reported that in the western part of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, they destroyed a structure from which mortar fire had been directed towards Israeli positions.
Furthermore, in the northern and central regions of Gaza, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) are targeting and eliminating militants.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) is a militant Palestinian organisation founded in the early 1980s to establish an Islamic Palestinian state and oppose the state of Israel.
Unlike Hamas, PIJ does not participate in Palestinian political elections and focuses primarily on armed resistance. The group is considered a terrorist organisation by Israel, the United States, the European Union, and other countries.
PIJ receives support from Iran and maintains close ties with Hezbollah in Lebanon. It has been responsible for numerous rocket attacks against southern Israel and has frequently been targeted by Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip.
The group’s activities contribute to ongoing tensions and cycles of violence between Israel and Palestinian factions. Despite its limited political role, PIJ remains a significant player in the regional conflict.
