Israel launches 18 airstrikes across Syria targeting military sites
On the night of Friday, May 2, Israeli Air Force jets carried out a series of airstrikes on military targets across multiple provinces in Syria.
Syrian state news agency SANA reported that the strikes targeted sites in the provinces of Damascus, Hama, and Daraa.
Among the specific targets were positions of the Syrian Army’s 41st Division near a hospital in the Damascus suburbs, as well as missile units in northern Daraa Province.
As a result of the attacks on Damascus and its outskirts, at least one person was killed and four others wounded.
Israeli aircraft also struck the Syrian Army’s 175th Regiment near the town of Azra’a, along with an air defence battalion north of Azra’a in the eastern countryside of Daraa.
Additionally, an Israeli drone carried out an airstrike on ground targets in the vicinity of As-Suwayda in southern Syria, reportedly killing at least three individuals.
The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) officially confirmed the air operations.
"The IDF recently struck a military site, anti-aircraft artillery positions, and infrastructure related to surface-to-air missile systems in Syria," the army said in a statement.
