Israel launches strikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah port
Israel confirmed on September 16 that it carried out an attack on Yemen’s Red Sea port of Hodeidah, marking the latest in a series of strikes the country says are aimed at Houthi forces.
The Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV reported that Israel conducted 12 airstrikes on the city on September 16. The Israeli military said the operation was in response to Houthi military activities in the area, Caliber.Az writes.
“Our air defences are currently confronting the Israeli aircrafts that are launching an aggression against our country,” Houthi spokesperson Yayha Saree posted on X.
Hours before the attack, the Israeli military issued a warning to residents and vessels in the port.
“For your safety, we urge everyone in Hodeida port and the vessels anchored there to evacuate the area immediately,” said Israeli army Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee on X.
Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz has confirmed the operation, stating, “The Air Force has now attacked the port of Hodeidah in Yemen to ensure the continuation of the maritime and air blockade on the Houthi terrorist organization. The Houthi terrorist organization will continue to suffer blows and pay painful prices for any attempt to attack the State of Israel.”
