Israel not interested in joining campaign against Iran, minister says

Israel is not interested in taking part in the current campaign against Iran despite the escalating US-Iran confrontation, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said, arguing that the current situation is favourable for the Jewish state.

He noted, however, that Israel is prepared for any development, Caliber.Az reports, citing Israeli media.

“At this moment, the State of Israel is not interested in participating in this campaign [against Iran]. The current situation is favourable for us, and we are not interested in being drawn into it,” he remarked.

The latest escalation between the United States and Iran began on July 8, when US forces launched several waves of strikes on Iranian territory in response to an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

The same day, US President Donald Trump announced the end of the ceasefire with Iran.

In response, Tehran began targeting US facilities across the Middle East, including in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
