Israel on high alert as Rubio and Netanyahu discuss Iran situation
In a fresh phone call, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has discussed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a potential U.S. intervention in the ongoing protests in Iran, three Israeli sources with knowledge of the matter have said.
According to the sources, Israel is on a heightened state of alert, although the specifics of this readiness were not disclosed, Caliber.Az reports via Western media.
The sources, who were present for Israeli security consultations over the weekend, did not elaborate on what Israel’s high-alert footing meant in practice.
Despite the continuing unrest in Iran, Israel has shown no intention of directly intervening. Tensions between the two countries remain high due to Tel Aviv’s concerns over Iran’s nuclear and missile programs.
In June 2025, Israel and Iran engaged in a 12-day conflict during which the United States supported Israel with airstrikes on Iranian territory.
